Street art is visual art that is developed in public spaces, and usually refers to unsanctioned art. Street art is art which is found in or inspired by an urban environment.
The streets can be seen as a tool for communicating peoples views, asking questions, and expressing political concerns. In some cases street art is seen as a means of urban regeneration and beautification.
There are many forms of street art, these include:
- traditional graffiti artwork
- stencil graffiti
- guerilla art
- street poster art
- art intervention
- video projections
- street installations
The challenge is to situate art in non-art contexts. Street artists attempt to have their work communicate with people that pass by everyday about socially relevant themes in ways that are informed by aesthetic values.
